Fashion Show

Twice a week I leave the girls with Craig and head to the gym... or out with a friend. It's hard to predict what  I will return home to. Sometimes the girls are all quietly asleep and sometimes... well they aren't.

Have I mentioned how much I love these crazy little ladies?

Dentist

Recently, the twins had their very first dentist appointment.

They were excited... weird, I know. They are actually excited for pretty much any doctor appointments.

A little part of me was excited to hear how well we were doing. The girls love to brush their teeth and we limit sugary snacks. They never drink pop, juice is a once in a while treat.

Boom. Insert moment of being blindsided by yet another reminder that the girls were born too early. The dentists explained that a mix of soft teeth (genetics) and prematurity (lack of development of some critical enamel) had lead to 5 cavities for Maddy and 3 for Georgia. Boom. Wait, what!?

After taking a deep breath I scheduled a dizzying amount of upcoming return visits to the dentist, put Sofia up as collateral (just kidding) for all the co-payments and pasted a smile on my face as I convinced the girls that the dentist is so much fun and WOW what a cool new toothbrush!

Well, today was their first fillings. The girls both rushed out of the waiting room excited to see the dentist and about 45 minutes later they returned looking like well... a hot mess. They were cranky and numb and holding back tears as they showed me their prizes.

I put on a brave face as I loaded three crying girls (Sofia's a big sympathy cryer) into the car as I called Craig and promptly requested something like "I am so not doing this by myself next time!" and headed to the nearest McDonald's for yogurt parfaits (they were allowed to eat soft foods and drink right away) and a giant coffee.

Shortly thereafter we were enjoying cheesesticks while watching Tinkerbell as everything started to become right with the world again.

This is what happens when you smile with a numb mouth :)

As I was tucking the girls in for naps I explained to them that we would have to return to the dentist a few more times and how proud I was of them. They told me they still love the dentist and were mostly concerned that they didn't receive a new toothbrush after this visit.

Their positive attitudes blow me away on a regular basis.
