So long, farewell Auf Wiedersehen, adieu....

A week ago we said goodbye to our pacifier friends. Georgia has never been especially attached to them but they have been treasured by Madelyn. We ditched the pacifiers for a couple of reasons. It all started with a conversation I had with the pediatrician about swaddling. Babies move and explore their bodies a lot at night so after about 6 months swaddling is no longer recommended. Well.... the swaddling blanket is what usually catches Maddy's pacifier when it falls out in the middle of the night. Without it she loses it every 20-30 minutes and can't find it and cries. Not good for anyone. So last Friday we decided to ditch both swaddling and pacifiers. :/ While it has been a challenging week I figure it is easier now than it will be in a couple of years. Outings are a little less fun as we can't just give Maddy her pacifier when she gets bored. All in all I think we are surviving. :)

At one time I counted 15 pacifiers all strategically located around the house.

We tried sweet potatoes this week. Georgia loved them and actually yelled at me when I would take too long feeding Madelyn in between her bites. I also think the orange compliments their bibs quite nicely. Next up: pears

Their bibs get so messy because they are so good at wiping their own faces in between bites.

Avocados!

So I came to the realization today that my children are weird... and I love it!

Cereal... eww.
Bananas... bleh.
Mushy avocado paste... yum! This was the first food that elicited a smile from the girls. Avocados are very healthy and provide lots of great vitamins and minerals but personally I think in paste form they taste gross. Shh.... don't tell the girls that.

Our 2nd "solid" food was runny bananas. I was a little disappointed. The girls had no real feelings either way towards the bananas. I thought they would at least view it as a small improvement over runny cereal mush. I know I would! I've been doing a lot of reading about preparing baby foods at home and the benefits over commercially prepared foods and so with their pediatrician's blessing we're planning on making most of our own foods.

How cute are those bibs? Grandpa Brian picked them out last summer and we tacked them up on the hospital wall while I was on bed rest!

What a Difference a Year Makes...

One year ago today we were given the first glimpse of what we were in for. I will never forget the look on Craig's face across the room as we both saw this:



Having twins was a long running joke by that point which just added to the looks of incredulity on our faces. The rest of the day was a blur of excitement to say the least. Initially I remember feeling such a rollercoaster of emotions (I'm sure the pregnancy hormones had nothing to do with that:) ). I flip flopped a lot between elation and feeling completely overwhelmed and freaked out. A year later, I couldn't be happier. We count our blessings everyday. The highlight of my day is seeing their sweet faces in the morning and I am convinced those baby giggles can make anyone happy.

21 Weeks...

8 Months!

Time flies when you're havin fun! I can't believe the girls are already 8 months old. Last week we went to the doctor for some growth checks.

Georgia - 12 lb 14oz - 23 inches
Madelyn - 11 lb 7oz - 21 3/4 inches

The doctor said they look great and are growing just fine.

We had a fun Valentine's weekend with Craig's parents and Aunt Pat. The girls spent lots of time cuddling and laughing but unfortunately we didn't spend lots of time taking pictures. Here is a cute one of Georgia laughing and checking out her foot with Grandma Leslie.

Who needs crawling or walking when you can just wiggle? She kept smiling and laughing at me as if to say "Mom look at me! I'm all the way over here."

The girls tried cereal for the first time last weekend. I wouldn't call it a huge success but it was pretty funny.
