Hello everyone! Apparently the combination of Georgia coming home and us moving has caused me to not update our blog. I am sorry I have been such a slacker poster. I have lots of cute pictures to post but we have been investigating the best cable/Internet company to go with and haven't gotten service at the house started yet. I promise to post them soon.
Georgia is doing great at home. She has gained a whole pound already and now weighs 5 pounds! She has transitioned from NICU time to "Georgia" time and is now living on her own schedule. Every once in a while she gives me a 4 hour break between feedings but for the most part it's about 2-3 hours. She is sleeping in her own bed now, in her own room! During moving she was sleeping in a bassinet in our room which was causing me to wake up and check on every little grunt or squeak, now the baby monitor lets us know when she really needs us. When we take her out in public people look confused as they look at what they assume to be a newborn and then I tell them she is actually 3 months old. Most people expect more of an explanation and honestly it is kind of nice sharing our story with others. I often forget how amazing this journey is and how far both girls have come.
This has been the first free weekend the three of us have spent together and it turned out to be a wonderfully lazy day of sleeping in, taking a walk to the ice cream shop and then going to the hospital to visit Maddy.
Maddy is doing great too, I just wish she could be doing it at home. She is getting so big and her little chipmunk cheeks are so adorable. She was 5 lbs. 12 oz. tonight! Her eyes have been stable over the past three weeks. This means she still has Level 3 ROP but it has not progressed to a point that would require surgery which is wonderful. Generally, the peak of the disease is at 36-37 weeks gestation and the girls are now at 39 weeks. It is expected that her eyes will gradually heal and recover on their own without laser surgery. With that said, we are still waiting on her re-connect surgery pending better eye exam results. Her surgery has tentatively been scheduled for this Tuesday the 15th. She has an eye exam at 10am that morning and if the opthamologist gives the ok we are off to surgery that afternoon. Following surgery she will have to recover and the doctors will gradually start feeding her more and more while watching her digestion and bowel movements. We haven't really been given a specific window of time as far as how long she will be here after surgery but the consensus seems to be about a month. Hopefully she will be joining her sister at home sometime in October.
